A Wipe Across the Front Is Not Cleaning a Venetian
Blinds are the thing everybody means to get to and nobody does. The dust builds evenly across every slat, so there is nothing to compare it against until you clean one and hold it next to the next window.
Richmond is single-fronted Victorian cottages, terraces and converted warehouses, packed tightly between Bridge Road, Swan Street and Church Street. Narrow, deep floor plans and very little off-street parking.
The narrow plan concentrates traffic. In a single-fronted cottage every person walks the same hallway line from the front door to the kitchen, so the wear pattern is sharper here than in a wide suburban house. Traffic-lane greying is the number one thing we are called about in Richmond.
A lot of Richmond carpet is laid straight over the original hardwood boards with minimal underlay. That changes how much moisture is safe to use, so we run drier and put more air movement in rather than saturating a floor that has nowhere to drain.
Vertical blinds fail differently from venetians. The vanes collect dust along the leading edge, the weights and chain at the bottom gather grime, and the carrier track above jams with the same dust, which is why old verticals start dropping vanes long before the fabric itself has worn out.
The part that matters is the edges. Running a cloth across the face of a venetian moves dust from the middle of each slat and leaves a dark line along both edges, which is why home-cleaned blinds still look grey. Slat by slat, both faces and the edges, is the only method that actually works.
Truck-mounted extraction needs the van within hose reach of your front door, and permit-only streets around Bridge Road and Church Street make that the hardest part of a Richmond booking. If you have a permit, a driveway or a rear lane, mention it. If not, we work it out, but a heads-up saves time on the day.

What Is Included in a Blind Clean
Cleaned in place on the window in most cases, slat by slat.
How a Blind Clean Runs on the Day
A house of ten blinds usually takes one to two hours.
Confirm the count and the price
We count the blinds with you and confirm an itemised quote before starting.
Identify the material
Timber, faux timber, aluminium, PVC and fabric each need a different approach.
Dry dust first
Dust lifted dry, because wetting it first just smears it into the slats.
Detail slat by slat
Both faces and the edges, which is what a quick wipe across the front misses.
Clean cords, tracks and headrails
The grimiest part of any blind and the part always skipped.
Dry and test operation
Raised, lowered and tilted before we leave so nothing sticks.

Blind Cleaning Richmond Questions, Answered
Are blinds cheaper done with the curtains?
Considerably, because the call-out is charged once rather than twice. Most people with both do them in the same visit, and a whole home of up to ten blinds is from $220 bundled.
Do the blinds come off the window?
Usually not. Most blinds are cleaned in place, which avoids the risk of damaging brackets and mechanisms on removal. Heavily grease-soiled kitchen blinds sometimes come down for an ultrasonic deep clean from $40 each, and we will tell you if yours are in that category.
Can you clean timber blinds?
Yes, with a low-moisture method. Real timber and faux-timber warp, swell and lose their finish if they are over-wetted, which is what happens when they are treated like an aluminium venetian. They are from $35 each because they take longer and need more care.
What about the cords and the headrail?
Included. The cords, tracks and headrail are the grimiest part of any blind and the part nobody ever cleans, and leaving them means the blind still looks dirty from underneath even when the slats are spotless.
Will you be able to park in my street?
Usually, though Richmond’s permit-only zones are the tightest we work in. Truck-mounted extraction needs the van within hose reach of the door. If you have a visitor permit or rear lane access, tell us when booking. Where parking genuinely is not possible we bring portable equipment instead.
My carpet is laid straight onto floorboards. Is that a problem?
It is common in Richmond cottages and it is fine, as long as whoever cleans it knows. We use controlled moisture and extra air movement so water is not left sitting against timber. Over-wetting a floor like that is how boards cup and how a musty smell develops.
