Leather Does Not Wear Out. It Dries Out.
The cracking you see along the seat cushions and arms of an older leather lounge is not wear. It is the hide losing its natural oils, going brittle, and then splitting where it flexes most.
Body oils and sweat strip those natural oils out over time, and household cleaners and baby wipes accelerate it badly, because most are alkaline and leather is not.
We clean with pH-balanced products that lift the soil without stripping the finish, then put a conditioner back in. That second step is the one that matters, and it is the one most people skip.
Conditioning will soften the hide and stop it getting worse, and it makes existing cracks far less obvious, but it cannot re-join a split that has already gone through the finish. We will be straight with you about which you have.

Leather Types We Clean
The finish decides the method. Using a pigmented-leather approach on aniline will mark it permanently.
What We Treat on Leather
Tell us what it is and how long it has been there. Ink and dye transfer on light leather are the two we are most cautious about promising on.

Leather Couch Cleaning Melbourne FAQs
How much does leather couch cleaning cost in Melbourne?
From $60 a seat including conditioning, so a two-seat sofa is from $120 and a three-seat from $170. Armchairs are from $70 and dining chairs from $25. There is a $120 minimum call-out. You get a fixed itemised quote before we begin.
Can you fix cracked leather?
Conditioning softens the hide, stops the cracking progressing and makes existing fine cracks far less noticeable. What it cannot do is re-join a split that has already gone through the finish, and no cleaner can. We will tell you which you have on arrival rather than promising a restoration we cannot deliver.
Why is conditioning important?
Because leather fails by drying out, not by wearing through. Cleaning alone removes soil and some of the remaining natural oils with it. If those oils are not replaced, the hide is left drier than it started, which is why some lounges look worse a few months after a cheap clean.
Are baby wipes really that bad?
Yes, and they are the most common cause of damage we see. Most wipes and general-purpose sprays are alkaline, and leather is naturally acidic. Repeated use strips the protective finish, which is when you start seeing colour transfer onto clothing and cracking along the seat cushions.
How long does it take to dry?
Leather is touch-dry almost immediately and fully cured within an hour or two. Unlike fabric, there is no soaking involved, so you can use the lounge the same day.
Can you clean nubuck or suede?
We clean them dry only, never wet. Napped finishes mark permanently with moisture. We will set expectations honestly before starting, because results on nubuck are more modest than on pigmented leather.
Will it remove denim dye transfer?
Sometimes, on pigmented leather, and rarely on aniline. Blue dye from jeans migrates into the finish and is one of the hardest things to reverse. We will assess it and tell you honestly what is realistic before you spend anything.
How often should leather be cleaned and conditioned?
Every 6 to 12 months for a lounge in daily use, and more often if it sits in direct sunlight or near a heater. Regular light conditioning is far more effective than an occasional heavy restoration.
Do you clean car and boat interiors?
Yes, on request. It is the same two-stage clean and condition process, arranged by appointment.
Do you cover my suburb?
All of Melbourne metro plus Geelong and surrounds. Call 0436 389 114 if you are unsure.
