Sunscreen and Fake Tan Are the Local Specialities
Every region has its characteristic stains. Along the Surf Coast and the Bellarine, ours are sunscreen and fake tan, and both are far harder than the coffee and red wine most people worry about.
Sunscreen is oil-based, so water and household spray do nothing to it. It needs a solvent pre-treatment before any moisture goes near it, otherwise you simply spread it into a wider halo.
Fake tan is worse, because it is a dye as well as an oil. It sometimes reduces substantially and sometimes barely moves, and we would rather tell you that before you pay than after.

Can you remove every stain?
No, and we will tell you before you pay. If something is sitting on the fibre we can almost always get it out. If the fibre has lost its own colour, from bleach, a cleaning product, or heat, then no cleaner on earth can put that colour back, and the honest fix is patching.
Does it matter what I have already tried?
A great deal. Supermarket spot removers leave residue that blocks professional treatment, and scrubbing with hot water sets tannin and protein stains permanently. Tell us exactly what you used and we will remove that residue first.
Is it cheaper than cleaning the whole room?
For one or two marks, yes, considerably. For several marks around the room a full clean is usually better value, and it avoids leaving clean patches on a carpet that is dull everywhere else.
Can you get red wine out?
Usually yes, especially if it is recent and nobody has poured hot water on it. Red wine is a tannin stain and responds well to the right acidic treatment. Older wine that has been scrubbed is much harder and we will assess it honestly.
Will the treated spot look different to the rest?
That is exactly why we groom the treated area into the surrounding pile. On a carpet that is dull throughout, a perfectly cleaned spot can stand out, and in that situation we will recommend cleaning the whole room instead.
