Pet Odour Removal Melbourne

The Smell Is Not in the Carpet

This is the part almost everyone gets wrong. When a dog or cat urinates on carpet, only a fraction stays in the pile. The rest goes straight through into the underlay and often the floor beneath, which is exactly where household sprays never reach.

Urine leaves behind salt crystals. They are hygroscopic, meaning they draw moisture out of the air, which is why the smell comes roaring back on a humid day or when the heating goes on, months after you thought you had dealt with it.

The only thing that genuinely works is an enzyme that breaks those crystals down, applied in enough volume to reach as far as the urine did, then extracted. Anything sprayed on the surface is masking, not removing.

How bad is it really?

A UV light shows the true extent, and it is almost always larger than the visible mark. Tell us how many accidents and roughly how long it has been going on, and we will give you a realistic answer.

What You Get

What Is Included in Every Clean

Every job runs the full process. There is no stripped-back version at a lower price that skips the steps that matter.

Locate the full extentThe visible mark is smaller than the contaminated area. We find the actual edges before treating.
Assess the depthSurface, underlay or subfloor. This decides the method and what result is realistic.
Pre-clean the pileSurface soiling removed first so the enzyme reaches the contamination rather than the dirt.
Enzyme applied to depthEnough volume to reach as far as the urine travelled, not a light surface mist.
Controlled dwell timeEnzymes need time to work. Rushing this step is why cheap treatments fail.
ExtractionThe broken-down residue is extracted out rather than left in the underlay.
Deodorise and re-checkFinal treatment and a re-check, because odour can return as the area dries.
Enzyme vs Everything Else

Why Supermarket Sprays Do Not Work

Not a sales pitch. This is genuinely about where the urine physically is.

Short version: your nose is not the one that matters. A dog can still smell a spot you cannot, and it will keep returning to it. Removing the source is what breaks that cycle.
Our Process

How We Clean, Step by Step

A single area takes around 45 minutes, plus dwell time for the enzyme.

1

Tell us the history

How many accidents, roughly where and how long it has been going on.

2

Find the true extent

We locate the actual contaminated area, which is always larger than the visible mark.

3

Assess the depth

Pile, underlay or subfloor. This determines both method and realistic outcome.

4

Pre-clean the surface

So the enzyme reaches the contamination instead of being used up on general soil.

5

Enzyme to depth, then dwell

Applied in volume and given proper time to break the crystals down.

6

Extract, deodorise, re-check

Residue extracted, area deodorised and re-checked as it dries.

When to Book

Signs You Have a Urine Problem

Smell returns on humid daysThe classic sign. Salt crystals draw moisture from the air and release the odour again.
Smell when the heating comes onWarm air lifts odour out of the underlay. Very common in Melbourne winters.
Your pet keeps returning to a spotThey can still smell it even when you cannot, and that is why re-marking continues.
Stiff or crunchy patch in the carpetDried urine salts in the pile. It is a physical residue, not just a smell.
Yellow-brown ringsOlder accidents that have dried and oxidised, often larger than they first appear.
Visitors notice but you do notNose blindness is real. If someone mentions it, it is worth investigating.

How Deep

How Far the Contamination Has Gone

This is the single thing that determines cost and outcome, so we assess it before quoting a result.

Surface only
Fresh, caught quicklyStraightforward. Cleans out completely with enzyme and extraction.
Into the underlay
Most common caseNeeds volume treatment to depth. Usually resolves fully with proper dwell time.
Underlay saturated
Repeated accidentsTreatment may not be enough. Replacing that section of underlay is often cheaper than repeat attempts.
Into the subfloor
Long-term problemTimber and concrete both absorb it. The subfloor may need sealing to stop it re-emerging.
Upholstery and foam
Lounges and bedsFoam holds urine like a sponge. Treated in place, but heavily saturated foam may not be salvageable.
Rugs
Loose floor coveringsOften better cleaned by immersion. See rug cleaning.

Common Questions

Pet Odour Removal Melbourne FAQs

How much does pet odour removal cost in Melbourne?

From $70 for a single accident area, from $140 for up to three in the same room and from $220 for a whole-room treatment. Where urine has gone right through, underlay treatment is from $120 an area and replacement from $180. There is a $120 minimum call-out. You get a fixed itemised quote before we begin.

Why does the smell keep coming back?

Because urine leaves salt crystals in the underlay, and those crystals attract moisture from the air. On a humid day or when the heating comes on, the moisture reactivates them and the smell returns. Surface sprays never touch those crystals, which is why the problem seems to come back no matter what you use.

Do supermarket pet sprays work?

For a fresh accident blotted immediately, they help. For anything that has soaked into the underlay they mask the smell with fragrance rather than removing the source. Your pet can still smell it and will keep returning to the same spot.

Can you always get the smell out?

Where it has reached the underlay, usually yes with proper enzyme treatment. Where a pet has used the same spot repeatedly over months, the underlay may be saturated and the subfloor contaminated, and treatment alone may not fully resolve it. In that case replacing that section of underlay is honestly cheaper than paying for repeated treatments.

Is cat urine harder than dog?

Yes, noticeably. Cat urine is more concentrated and has a stronger, more persistent odour, and cats tend to return to the same spot. It usually needs more product and longer dwell time.

Is the treatment safe for pets and children?

Yes. Enzyme treatments are biological rather than harsh chemicals, and we use pet-safe products throughout. Keep pets off the area until it is dry, mainly so they do not re-mark it while it is damp.

How do you find all the spots?

A UV light shows contamination that is invisible in normal light, and the affected area is almost always considerably larger than the visible mark. Treating only what you can see is a common reason odour persists.

Will my pet stop going in that spot?

Usually, once the source is genuinely removed rather than covered. Pets return to spots they can still smell, so removing the odour at the source is the most effective part of breaking the habit.

Can you treat lounges and mattresses too?

Yes. Foam holds urine like a sponge, so it is treated in place with the same enzyme approach. Heavily saturated foam cushions may not be salvageable and we will tell you honestly.

Do you cover my suburb?

All of Melbourne metro plus Geelong and surrounds. Call 0436 389 114 if you are unsure.
