Holiday Rentals Age a Lounge Fast

A lounge in a permanently occupied home takes one family’s worth of use. A lounge in a Bellarine or Surf Coast holiday rental takes a different family every week, all summer, usually with sand and sunscreen involved.

Sunscreen is the one people underestimate. It is oil-based, it transfers onto fabric from skin, and it does not respond to water or general-purpose spray at all. It needs an oil-specific pre-treatment.

Combined with salt air and sand, that is why rental lounges go grey and slightly tacky far faster than a lounge in a family home, and why a changeover-season clean is worth building into the calendar.

Managing a holiday rental?

Tell us your changeover days and we will work around them. We do a lot of between-guest cleans across the Bellarine and can usually turn a lounge around in a morning.

What You Get

What Is Included in Every Clean

Every job runs the full process. There is no stripped-back version at a lower price that skips the steps that matter.

Fabric identification and testWe check the cleaning code and test a hidden panel before any solution touches the visible fabric.
Full dry vacuumCrumbs, hair and grit removed from the crevices first, so the wet stage is not just making mud.
Body-oil pre-treatmentHead rests, arms and seat fronts treated for oil, which is what actually makes fabric look grey.
Spot and stain workFood, drink and pet marks treated individually with the chemistry that suits each one.
Low-moisture hand extractionAn upholstery tool, not a carpet wand, so the padding underneath does not get soaked.
Deodorising treatmentNeutralises odour in the foam rather than covering it with fragrance.
Speed-dry and groomAir movement over the piece and the pile groomed so it dries evenly and stays soft.
Professional vs DIY

Why Home Upholstery Machines Disappoint

Hire machines and supermarket sprays have a place. Here is honestly where they fall short.

Professional hot water extraction
Hire machine or spray
Removes body oils
Pre-treated with the right chemistry
Water alone does not touch oil
Moisture control
Low-moisture hand tool, controlled
Easy to soak the foam underneath
Risk to delicate fabrics
Tested first, method adjusted
Shrinkage and watermarks are common
Residue
Neutralising rinse pulls it back out
Residue stays and re-soils quickly
Dry time
3 to 5 hours
Can stay damp for a day or more
Cost
From $35 a seat
Cheap hire, expensive if it goes wrong
Sunscreen is the local test case: it is oil-based, so a hire machine using water alone will not touch it. That is the clearest example of where DIY stops working on a coastal lounge.
Our Process

How We Clean, Step by Step

Same process as our Melbourne team, run by the local Geelong crew, seven days a week.

1

Tell us the pieces

Number of seats, chairs and any problem areas. You get a fixed price before we book.

2

Fabric check and test

Cleaning code identified and a hidden panel tested before we commit to a method.

3

Full dry vacuum

Crevices, under cushions and the frame, so the wet stage is effective.

4

Pre-treat oils and stains

Head rests, arms and individual marks each treated with suitable chemistry.

5

Low-moisture extraction

Hand tool used across the panels so the padding is not over-wetted.

6

Deodorise, groom and dry

Odour neutralised, pile groomed, air movers on to bring it back in 3 to 5 hours.

When to Book

Signs Your Couch Needs Cleaning

Dark arms and head restsBody oil, not dirt. It will not vacuum out and it keeps attracting more soil.
Greasy marks from sunscreenOil-based, so water and household spray do nothing. Very common in coastal homes.
Sand in the crevicesGrit under the cushions abrades the fabric from underneath every time someone sits down.
End of the summer rental seasonA lounge that has hosted a different family every week needs a reset.
Pets on the furnitureHair, oils and dander concentrate fast and the fabric holds the odour.
It feels stiff or stickyUsually residue from a previous DIY clean that was never rinsed out.

Upholstery We Clean

The cleaning code decides the method. Getting it wrong is how couches end up shrunk or watermarked.

Cotton & blends
Most Australian loungesHandles hot water extraction well and gives the most dramatic results.
Microfibre & suede-look
Very commonMarks easily with water rings, so it is cleaned evenly panel by panel.
Linen
Delicate and prone to shrinkLow-moisture only, and some linens should not be wet-cleaned at all.
Velvet & chenille
Pile fabricsCleaned and groomed in one direction so the pile does not end up patchy.
Wool blends
Higher-end loungespH-neutral and lower temperature so the fibre does not felt.
Leather
Hide loungesA completely different process. See leather couch cleaning.

Upholstery Stains We Treat

Tell us what it is and how old. Fresh spills lift far more completely than ones that have been rubbed with a cloth and set into the weave.

Common Questions

Fabric Couch Cleaning Geelong FAQs

Do you clean upholstery across Geelong and the Surf Coast?

Yes, with a local team covering Geelong city, the Bellarine and out to Torquay and Armstrong Creek. Same low-moisture hand extraction we use in Melbourne.

Can you remove sunscreen and fake tan from a couch?

Usually yes, but they need an oil-based pre-treatment rather than water, which is why they do not respond to household spray. Fake tan is the harder of the two because it is a dye as well as an oil, and we will give you an honest assessment before starting.

Do you clean upholstery across the Bellarine and Surf Coast?

Yes, with no travel surcharge across Geelong, the Bellarine and out to Torquay. Same low-moisture hand extraction we use in Melbourne.

Can you turn a rental lounge around between bookings?

Usually yes. A three-seat lounge takes 45 to 60 minutes and is dry in 3 to 5 hours, so a morning clean is comfortably ready for an afternoon check-in. Tell us your changeover time when you book.

How much does couch cleaning cost in Melbourne?

From $35 a seat, so a two-seat sofa is from $75 and a three-seat from $105. Armchairs are from $45 and dining chairs from $15. There is a $120 minimum call-out which covers a standard lounge suite. You get a fixed itemised quote before we begin.

How long does a couch take to dry?

Three to five hours. We use a hand upholstery tool rather than a carpet wand, which puts far less moisture into the padding, and we finish with air movement. Book a morning slot and it is usable that evening.

Will my fabric shrink or watermark?

That is exactly what the fabric test is for. We identify the cleaning code and test a hidden panel before touching the visible fabric. Linen and some loose covers genuinely are not safe to wet-clean, and we tell you that before we start rather than after.

Can you get body oil out of the arms and head rests?

Yes, and it is the most common thing we are asked for. Body oil is not water-soluble, which is why vacuuming and household sprays do nothing. It needs a pre-treatment designed for oil, dwell time, then extraction.

Can you remove pet smell from a couch?

Usually. The odour lives in the foam rather than the fabric, so we deodorise at the source rather than spraying the surface. Where a pet has repeatedly urinated into the cushions, we will be honest about whether the foam can be saved.

Do you clean dining chairs and bed heads?

Yes. Dining chairs are from $15 each and upholstered bed heads are priced like an armchair. Adding them to an existing booking is inexpensive because you are already paying the call-out.
