It Buys You Time When Something Spills
Protector does not make carpet stain-proof, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling it. What it does is stop a spill soaking straight into the fibre, so it sits on top long enough for you to blot it up.
Carpet and upholstery leave the factory with a protective treatment already applied. It wears off through traffic, vacuuming and cleaning, which is why an older carpet stains far more easily than a new one even when it looks fine.
Re-applying after a professional clean restores that barrier. It also makes routine vacuuming more effective, because dry soil sits on the fibre instead of grinding into it.
On a light-coloured carpet, a family lounge or anywhere with kids and pets, yes. On a dark carpet in a spare room that nobody uses, probably not, and we will say so rather than add it to every quote.

What Is Included in Every Clean
Every job runs the full process. There is no stripped-back version at a lower price that skips the steps that matter.
What Protection Actually Changes
Here is an honest account of what it does and does not do.
How We Clean, Step by Step
Applied at the end of a cleaning visit, adding around 15 minutes per room.
Book it with your clean
Tell us which rooms or pieces you want protected. Fixed price before we start.
Clean first, always
Protector locks in whatever is underneath, so the surface must be properly cleaned first.
Fibre check
Wool, synthetic and delicate fabrics each get the appropriate product.
Even application
Measured coverage across the area, with extra attention on traffic lanes and seat fronts.
Groom into the pile
Worked in so it coats the fibre rather than sitting on the tips.
Dry and cure
Air movement to cure the treatment, then we explain what to do at the next spill.

What We Protect
The product changes with the fibre. Applying a synthetic-carpet protector to wool is a mistake.
What Protection Helps Against
It buys time on water-based spills above all. Oil-based marks and dyes are far less affected, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Scotchgard Protection Melbourne FAQs
How much does Scotchgard protection cost?
From $15 a room when added to a carpet clean, or from $70 for a whole three-bedroom home. Upholstery is from $12 a seat, rugs from $20 and mattresses from $20. Applied without a clean it is from $30 a room, and only where the surface is genuinely clean already. You get a fixed itemised quote before we begin.
Does it make carpet stain-proof?
No, and we would rather say that plainly. It stops a spill soaking straight into the fibre so it beads on the surface, which gives you time to blot it up. What you do in the first minute still decides the outcome. Anyone promising stain-proof is overselling.
How long does it last?
Roughly 12 to 24 months in a normal household. Traffic lanes, hallways and stairs wear through it faster than bedrooms. Most people re-apply at their next annual clean.
Is it safe for children and pets?
Yes, once it has cured. We apply it, groom it into the pile and dry it with air movement, and we ask you to keep the area clear until it is fully dry. After that it is inert.
Why does it have to go on after cleaning?
Because protector seals in whatever is on the fibre. Applied to dirty carpet it locks the soil in place, which makes the next clean harder rather than easier. It is always the last step of a job.
Does it work on wool?
Yes, with a wool-safe, pH-neutral formulation. Using a standard synthetic-carpet protector on wool can damage the fibre, so tell us if your carpet or rug is wool.
Will it change how the carpet feels?
No. Applied correctly and groomed in, there is no stiffness or residue. If a carpet feels crunchy after a protector application, it was over-applied or not groomed in.
Is it worth it on dark carpet?
Less so. On a dark carpet in a low-use room the benefit is marginal, and we will tell you that rather than adding it to every quote. On light carpet, family lounges and childrens rooms it is genuinely worthwhile.
Can you apply it to just the traffic areas?
Yes, and it is a sensible way to spend less. Hallways, doorways and in front of the lounge take almost all the wear.
Do you cover my suburb?
All of Melbourne metro plus Geelong and surrounds. Call 0436 389 114 if you are unsure.
