Those Ripples Are a Trip Hazard
Waves and bubbles in a carpet are not just ugly. Every time someone walks over a ripple the backing flexes and the fibre wears at that line, so a carpet left rippling develops permanent creases that no amount of stretching will remove.
Ripples happen because the carpet was originally kick-stretched instead of power-stretched, because humidity has moved it, or because heavy furniture has been dragged across it. The fix is the same: lift the edges, pull the slack out properly with a power stretcher, re-hook it onto the gripper and trim the excess.
Done correctly it stays flat. A carpet that has been kicked back into place rather than power-stretched will usually ripple again within a year.
Yes, and sooner is cheaper. Ripples that have been walked on for years leave a crease line that stays faintly visible even after a perfect stretch. Send a photo and we will tell you what to expect.

Areas We Restretch
Some layouts are simply harder than others, which is what the price reflects.
Problems We Correct
Tell us how long the ripples have been there. Recent movement stretches out completely, while years of walking on a ridge can leave a faint crease line.

Carpet Stretching Melbourne FAQs
How much does carpet restretching cost in Melbourne?
Bedrooms start from $130 and living rooms from $160, with hallways from $90 and stairs from $150 a flight. A whole three-bedroom home is from $420. There is a $130 minimum call-out. You get a fixed itemised quote before we start.
Why did my carpet ripple in the first place?
Almost always because it was kick-stretched instead of power-stretched when it was laid, which is very common in project homes. Humidity, a damp subfloor and dragging heavy furniture are the other causes. We check which it is, because a damp subfloor will ripple the carpet again no matter how well we stretch it.
Will the ripples come back?
Not if it is power-stretched properly and the underlying cause is dealt with. A carpet that is simply kicked back into place usually ripples again within a year, which is why some people have had it done twice.
Do I need to move the furniture?
Clear small items and anything breakable. We move light furniture such as chairs, coffee tables and lounges ourselves. Very heavy items like wardrobes and pianos we work around.
How long does it take?
A standard bedroom is usually under an hour. A large living room takes one to two hours, and a whole three-bedroom house is generally a half day.
Can you stretch and clean in the same visit?
Yes, and it saves a call-out. We always stretch first and clean afterwards so the pile is groomed once the carpet is flat.
Will the crease line disappear completely?
Usually. Where a ripple has been walked over for years the backing can be permanently creased, and a faint line may remain even after a perfect stretch. We will tell you on arrival if that is likely rather than promising a result we cannot deliver.
Can you stretch carpet on stairs?
Yes. Stairs are hand-stretched and re-secured tread by tread, which is slower than a flat room, so they are priced per flight.
What if the gripper has failed?
Then stretching alone will not hold. We replace the gripper rod where needed, priced from $40 a metre, and re-hook the carpet onto the new gripper.
Do you cover my suburb?
All of Melbourne metro plus Geelong and surrounds. Call 0436 389 114 if you are unsure.
