Carpet Repair and Stretching Prices in Richmond
Starting prices per job. Room size and damage extent affect the final figure, confirmed before we begin.
Most Carpet Damage Is Repairable, and Far Cheaper Than Replacing
People routinely re-carpet a whole room because of one burn, one pet-damaged doorway or a set of ripples across the middle. All three are ordinary repairs, and all three cost a fraction of new carpet.
Richmond is single-fronted Victorian cottages, terraces and converted warehouses, packed tightly between Bridge Road, Swan Street and Church Street. Narrow, deep floor plans and very little off-street parking.
A lot of Richmond carpet is laid straight over the original hardwood boards with minimal underlay. That changes how much moisture is safe to use, so we run drier and put more air movement in rather than saturating a floor that has nowhere to drain.
The narrow plan concentrates traffic. In a single-fronted cottage every person walks the same hallway line from the front door to the kitchen, so the wear pattern is sharper here than in a wide suburban house. Traffic-lane greying is the number one thing we are called about in Richmond.
Ripples in particular are misunderstood. They are not a sign the carpet is finished, they mean it was never properly power stretched when it was laid, or it has relaxed since. A power stretcher is the only tool that fixes it permanently. Knee-kicking it back into place buys a few months at best.
Truck-mounted extraction needs the van within hose reach of your front door, and permit-only streets around Bridge Road and Church Street make that the hardest part of a Richmond booking. If you have a permit, a driveway or a rear lane, mention it. If not, we work it out, but a heads-up saves time on the day.

Perished underlay and rusted gripper are why carpet works loose again.

Carpet Repair Richmond Questions, Answered
Can you really make a patch invisible?
In most carpets, yes. The trick is donor material, which we take from inside a wardrobe or under a bed where nobody looks, then match the pile direction when bonding it in. On a plain carpet it is very hard to find afterwards. On a bold pattern it is harder, and we will tell you honestly what to expect.
Why does my carpet keep rippling after being stretched?
Almost always perished underlay or rusted gripper rather than the carpet. Restretching over failed underlay buys you a few months. We check both as part of any repair assessment and tell you if the underlay is the actual problem.
Is it cheaper to repair than replace?
Nearly always, and by a wide margin. A patch is from $110 and a single-room restretch from $130, against several hundred to a few thousand for new carpet plus underlay and fitting. If a repair genuinely is not worth doing we will say so.
Can you fix pet damage at a doorway?
Yes, it is one of the most common repairs we do. Chewed or dug carpet at a doorway is cut out square and patched with donor material, from $130. Where the underlay has also been damaged we replace that section too.
Will you be able to park in my street?
Usually, though Richmond’s permit-only zones are the tightest we work in. Truck-mounted extraction needs the van within hose reach of the door. If you have a visitor permit or rear lane access, tell us when booking. Where parking genuinely is not possible we bring portable equipment instead.
My carpet is laid straight onto floorboards. Is that a problem?
It is common in Richmond cottages and it is fine, as long as whoever cleans it knows. We use controlled moisture and extra air movement so water is not left sitting against timber. Over-wetting a floor like that is how boards cup and how a musty smell develops.
