Nobody Cleans Their Curtains, and the Reason Is Always the Same

Taking curtains down is a two-person job with a ladder, and rehanging them straight afterwards is worse. So they hang there quietly filtering every bit of airborne dust in the house, year after year.

The heading tape at the top collects the worst of it, because that is where the fabric bunches into permanent folds. It is also the part nobody can see from inside the room, which is why curtains that look acceptable from the sofa are still releasing dust every time they are drawn.

Open out a pleat and look at the fabric inside the fold. It has been shielded, and the colour difference against the exposed face is usually more than people expect. That difference is exactly what comes out, and cleaning on the rail means the hang and the hem line stay precisely where they are.
